2024 Goldleaf Day (Haku no Hi) Simple Kintsugi Workshop

August 9 (Friday), Goldleaf Day, is here again this year.

This year, we invited kurumi Co., Ltd. as a guest lecturer for a workshop on "Simple Kintsugi". We had two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with a total of 30 people in attendance! Thank you very much! Here is a report of the day's activities.

In this workshop, we focused on the most exciting process of gold sprinkling and prepared soba-no-kuchi (buckwheat noodle cups) and plates with chips and cracks. We prepared chipped and cracked buckwheat noodle cups and plates and had the participants repair the
chips and perform gold sprinkling.

Instead of using urushi lacquer, participants experienced simple kintsugi using a resin that hardens in a minute when illuminated with UV light. Everyone was absorbed in the process of scraping and filing the resin.

The room echoes with the sound of scraping sandpaper…

When the finishing touches of lacquer were applied and the gold was sprinkled and dusted off, the participants exclaimed, "Oh, wow!

The two-hour workshop seemed to pass by in the blink of an eye.

The participants were given the same design for the buckwheat noodle cups and plates, but since each piece was handmade, they did not end up with the same finish, and the resin used for the joints was sharpened and rode differently, allowing the participants to express their originality.

This was the third year we have held the workshop, and we thank you for your participation.
We will do our best to make next year's workshop even more enjoyable and unforgettable.
